Project |Math in Nature

Students learn about the Fibonacci Sequence and The Golden Mean. I show them excerpts from "The Number Devil" and a few short information videos.
Students are then tasked to find examples of these patterns in nature and take pictures using their iPad. From there students manipulate these images to show their take on where the sequence is present (e.g., spiraling of pumpkin).

Project |Business Day

This project combines aspects of our math, art, and service learning program. Students are partnerned and tasked with thinking of an item or service to sell. They use numbers or excel to create a budget and analyze sales. They also create marketing materials and all profits go to a local non-profit.

Project |Parents Day

After learning about how to classify and measure angles in math, they are expected to apply that knowledge and design their own closed shape with 4 angles. These shapes are designed on a laptop and then carved out in the maker lab. We displayed these pieces for our "Parents Day" celebration where we showed off our collaborative work in math, science, and art.
